What is Cats Eye Society?

Cats Eye Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of vulnerable cats that find themselves in the shelter system.

My partner and co-founder Foxx and I have spent years privately rescuing high-risk cats out of our home. In 2023, we decided to take the next steps to create an organization that focuses on saving the cats that most often fall through the cracks in the overcrowded and underfunded shelter system. These cats are typically elderly, have chronic medical issues, or have disabilities. Cats with these conditions typically do not get adopted quickly, and are more susceptible to deteriorating mentally and physically in shelter.

Why do we save these cats? Why don’t we use our resources to help a greater number of young, healthy cats?

That is a question we get often, and it’s a fair one.

It’s not a simple answer, really. I have worked at both sanctuary environments, and high-volume shelters. I have learned that my skills are best put to use by providing highly specialized medical care. It’s my passion, and in all honesty… I’m good at it. There are a lot of excellent organizations who focus on high-volume life saving. Cats Eye Society exists to help the cats that fall through the cracks, or take valuable time and resources from those organizations. From personal experience, I have seen the toll it takes on the staff to see these vulnerable cats come into the system and know there is nothing they can do to help them. The staff knows they can try and provide basic medical care, but that these cats will likely deteriorate and be euthanized. Finding a rescue partner to take them is usually the best outcome, but waitlists are long, and rescues are overwhelmed with requests. Animal welfare needs both high-volume and specialized care, and it’s nearly impossible for one organization to be able to focus on both. The only way we can maximize life-saving is by working together to save as many as we can. Cats Eye Society believes all cats are worth saving, not just young and healthy ones.
